Residents Are
- Adolescent mothers and their babies.
- Women between the ages of 14-19 (exceptions can be made until age 21).
- Girls who are pregnant or parenting a child under one year of age.
- Able to enter Alpha House at any time during their pregnancy, or until their baby turns 12 months old.
- Able to remain in Alpha House until baby reaches 1 years old.
Alpha House Provides
- A safe structured and nurturing environment.
- 24-hour supervision for continual caring support.
- Information to assist in making healthy choices for the future.
- An opportunity for residents to further their education.
- Pre and post-natal support.
- Referral for community resources.
- Transition assistance when residents move out on their own.
Residential Programs
- Prenatal and postnatal care: Moms and baby can stay until her baby reaches 1 year of age.
- Parenting skills: Coping strategies and implementation.
- Life skills: Build self-confidence, personal development, career options, self-reliance and independence.
- Health and nutrition: food choices on a shoestring budget.
- Money management: Meeting expenses, making money stretch and balancing budgets.
How to enter the program
- Self-referral
- Porfessional referral (e.g. social worker, teacher, public health nure, counsellor, doctor/midwife, etc)
- Referral Process through community resources.
- Phoneor visit Alpha House to arrange for an interview and tour.
- Prority given to Northumberland County residents, but this is NOT a requirement.
